Disney crowns its prince for 'Maleficent' *Updated*
Australian actor Brenton Thwaites has been cast as the Prince in Disney’s Maleficent, a live-action film that explores the origins of the evil fairy Maleficent and what led her to curse Princess Aurora in the animated Disney classic Sleeping Beauty. Angelina Jolie will play Maleficent.
The Aussie actor is unknown here, but he starred in the Australian TV drama SLiDE and was part of the cast of the popular teen-soap Home and Away. It was his work in that series that scored him and fellow Aussie Indiana Evans in Lifetime’s Blue Lagoon: The Awakening, which airs next month.
Elle Fanning has been cast as Aurora, while South African actor Sharlto Copley will play King Stefan. Robert Stromberg is directing and Disney has set a March 14, 2014 release date.
